The accolades continue for North Central College softball players Kara Reid and Holly Roadruck as they both landed a spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region Third Team as at-large selections.

The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin announced its 2009 All-Conference softball team on Monday with four North Central College players making the cut. Also being honored was Holly Roadruck as CCIW Co-Player of the Year while the Cardinal coaching staff earned CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year for the second consecutive season.

North Central College was unable to secure its second straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Softball Tournament title, dropping a pair of games against 12th ranked Illinois Wesleyan University at IWU Field to close out the two-day double elimination tournament. The Cardinals fell 1-0 in 10 innings in the opener before falling 5-3 in game two.

Katie Pappa drove in nine of the team’s 14 runs as North Central College breezed to the 6-2 win over Augustana College in the opener before pulling out the 8-6 upset over top-seeded Illinois Wesleyan University in a marathon extra innings contest to conclude day one of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Softball Tournament at IWU Field.

Wrestling
Gabe Youel has been honored by the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin as its Co-Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 25-31.
Youel, who shares this week's award with Mark Corsello of Elmhurst College, won four straight matches en route to the 184-pound championship at the Wheaton College Pete Willson Invitational. He is the tournament's first four-time champion since the event's namesake, Pete Willson, in 1950.
Youel has an overall record of 26-3 this season and is ranked third nationally in Division III at 184 pounds by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. He is the third Cardinal to receive Wrestler of the Week honors this season, joining teammates Nathan Fitzenreider and J.T. Rowe.

Women's Track and Field
Michelle Criscione was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week of Jan. 26.
Criscione cleared a personal-best 5 feet 6 1/2 inches in the high jump on Friday at the First Meet Ever hosted at the Al B. Carius Track, winning the event by over five inches. The mark was a provisional qualifying height and is currently the fourth best performance in Division III this season.
