WOOD DALE, Ill. (Oct. 6, 2008) - The North Central College men's golf team put together a solid finish to its 2008 fall campaign over the weekend, placing third in the 17-team Benedictine University Fall Invitational at Maple Meadows Golf Course.
The host Eagles made off with the team trophy, turning in a 36-hole score of 582 to finish 13 strokes ahead of second-place Luther College (Iowa). The Cardinals' total of 604 was three strokes better than fourth-place finisher Aurora University and placed North Central ahead of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foes Elmhurst College and Augustana College.
Wisconsin Lutheran College's Daniel Behm claimed individual medalist honors, firing a one over-par total of 141 for a one-stroke victory over Jon Syverston of the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Chris Kaiser (Fr., Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) was the Cardinals' top individual finisher, tying for 11th place with a score of 149. Nick Guido (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) was just one stroke behind in 18th place with a 150, and Matt Pierce (Jr., Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) shot 151 to tie for 19th.
North Central entered a second team in the event, which finished eighth overall with a score of 613. Josh Brantner (Jr., Dixon, Ill./Dixon) tied Kaiser for 11th with 149, while Brendan Chaves (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) carded a 152 to place 25th and Brett Miko (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) finished with 153 to rank 29th.
The Cardinals finish the 2008 fall season with an overall record of 25 wins and six losses.
