Men's Cross Country Wins Brooks Invite

WINNECONNE, Wis. (Oct. 17, 2009) -- All seven varsity runners finished among the top ten as the North Central College men's cross country team dominated the 35-team field at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational hosted at the Lake Breeze Golf Course.

Michael Spain led the Cardinal contingent, finishing runner-up after traversing the 8,000 meter course in 24:25. Nathaniel Hird finished one second behind in third place while Kyle Brady was fourth in 24:29. Ryan Carrigan posted a 24:37 to finish sixth while Sean Carlson rounded out the team's scoring top five, placing seventh.

In the team standings, North Central's 22 points easily out-distanced second place UW-Stevens Point's 97. College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin rival Augustana College was third with a team score of 151. Bethel University's Dan Greeno won the individual title, finishing the course in 24:15.

The victory was the Cardinals' sixth invitational win, as the top varsity squad has yet to be defeated this season.

The top-ranked Cardinals return to action on Friday, October 23, traveling to Champaign, Ill. for the Illini Open.
