WINNECONNE, Wis. (Oct. 17, 2009) -- The North Central College women's cross country squad turned in its sixth top ten performance of the year at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational, placing ninth at the prestigious meet held at the Lake Breeze Golf Course.
Lauren Hooks finished 27th overall to lead the Cardinals, shaving almost one minute off her previous best 6,000 meter time, clocking a 22:18.
Alicia Zimmerman was 45th with a time of 22:48 with
Kate Lueders trailing close behind in 49th place (22:51).
Amy Schwent and
Kala Bingham rounded out the scoring five, placing back-to-back in 81st and 82nd places with just two seconds separating the two.
UW-Oshkosh's Ayla Mitchell took home top individual honors, winning on her home course after clocking a 20:29 while Calvin College (Mich.) captured the team championship. The Knights tallied just 80 points edging out runner-up Washington University in St. Louis by 13 points. North Central was the top finishing College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin school at the meet, placing ninth with 284 points. CCIW rival Wheaton College was 12th with 352 points while Illinois Wesleyan University was 13th with a team tally of 390.
The Cardinals, ranked seventh in the Midwest Region, return to action on Friday, October 23, traveling to Champaign, Ill. for the Illini Open.
