Oct. 20, 2009 -- The North Central College women's cross country squad continued its ascent in the rankings, jumping up one spot to sixth within the Midwest Region in the seventh installment of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country (USTFCCCA) Regional Rankings, released Tuesday.
UW-Eau Claire maintained the top spot in the Midwest Region for the second consecutive week while Washington University in Saint Louis moved up one spot into second. UW-La Crosse fell one position to third while UW-Oshkosh and the University of Chicago remained unchanged at fourth and fifth, respectively. North Central's one spot jump to sixth came at the expense of UW-Platteville as the Pioneers tumbled four spots this week to 10th. College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin rival Wheaton College falls one spot to ninth while Illinois Wesleyan University drops out of the rankings this week.
The Cardinals finished ninth at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational on Saturday with three runners finishing in the top 50 among a field of over 450 competitors.
North Central returns to action on Friday, October 23, traveling to Champaign, Ill. for the Illini Open.
