GREENCASTLE, Ind. (Oct. 4, 2009) -- The North Central College women's tennis team sent four athletes to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional hosted by DePauw University over the weekend with
Cory Schillerstrom highlighted the team's efforts, winning four of her singles matches, advancing all the way to the consolation bracket semi-finals.
After an opening round defeat at the hands of DePauw's Courtney Griffin, Schillerstrom rattled off four straight victories, including a pair of, 6-1, 6-1, wins before falling to another DePauw athlete in the consolation bracket semi-finals dropping a, 2-6, 6-7, 6-8, decision to Taylor Prodromos.
Alicia DeGrado finished the tournament 2-2, falling, 3-6, 3-6, in her opening round match before picked up a, 6-1, 6-2, win over Oberlin College's Liz Saltzman. DeGrado continued to roll with a, 6-0, 6-1, win over Cheyenne Chambers before falling, 3-6, 4-6, to Allison Dender of Washington University in Saint Louis.
In doubles, Schillerstrom and DeGrado finished 2-1 at the tournament, winning their first two matches before suffering an 8-0 defeat at the hands of the No. 1 seeded University of Chicago tandem of Kendra Higgins and Chrissy Hu.
Elizabeth Micheletti and
Allison Paschold finished the weekend 1-1, defeating a team from Ohio Wesleyan University, 8-6, before falling 8-2 to a squad from Case Western Reserve University (Ohio).
The Cardinals return to action on Monday, facing Robert Morris University (Ill.) in the team's final tune-up before the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships.
