Oct. 5, 2009 -- The North Central College women's tennis squad wrapped up its dual match season in style on Monday, defeating Robert Morris University-Chicago, 9-0, in a non-conference match at Ranchview Park.
The Cardinals got things going early, sweeping all three doubles matches.
Cory Schillerstrom and
Alicia DeGrado rolled to the 8-2 victory at the No. 1 position while at No. 3,
Allison Paschold and
Katie Hatch won by an identical 8-2 score. At No. 2,
Abigail Conover and Jessica Ignarksi edged past Monja Dereta and Megan Cross, 8-5.
In singles, Schillerstrom needed the tiebreaker to come away with the, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 victory at No. 1. DeGrado posted the, 6-1, 6-0, win at No. 2 while Paschold, Conover and Ignarski all recorded wins at the No. 3 through No. 5 positions. At No. 6, Hatch defeated Belen Guerrero, 6-1, 6-3, in her first varsity dual meet action of the year.
With the win, North Central improves to 11-3 while the Eagles fall to 6-5. The Cardinals return to the courts on Friday, October 9, in Bloomington, Ill. where they will look to finish among the top four at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships for the third straight year.
