Oct. 7, 2009 - The North Central College men's cross country team continues to hold on to the No. 1 ranking among NCAA Division III teams for a fifth straight week, according to the new United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 35 Poll, which was released Wednesday.

The Cardinals picked up their fourth invitational victory of the season on Friday, taking first place in the Gold Division at the University of Notre Dame Invitational.

North Central received 280 points in this week's voting, while defending Division III national champion Cortland State University (N.Y.) moved up one spot to second place with 269 points. College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin rival Augustana College is 18th in this week's poll.

A portion of the Cardinals' squad will travel to the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational on Friday.
