Wrestlers Edged Out by Huskies

EVANSTON, Ill. (Nov. 14, 2009) – The North Central College wrestling team went nose-to-nose with the eighth-ranked NCAA Division II team in the nation on Saturday at the Northwestern University Duals, suffering a narrow 20-19 loss to the St. Cloud State University (Minn.) Huskies.

The Cardinals (4-1), who went into the meet as the 10th-ranked NCAA Division III team in the country, fell behind early in the team tally as St. Cloud's Jason Kahnke scored a win by fall at 285 pounds, the first weight class contested. North Central countered with three straight victories, as Joe Norton won by decision at 125, Nathan Fitzenreider scored a major decision at 133 and Andrew Zobac accepted a forfeit at 141.

The Huskies countered with three wins of their own, winning by decision at 149 and 157 and by technical fall at 165. Cowan Brown and Gabe Youel won by decison at 174 and 184, respectively, before SCSU sealed the victory with Lucas Munkelwitz's win by decision at 197.

Fitzenreider, Brown and Youel remain unbeaten this season, each standing at 5-0. Youel now holds sole possession of fourth place in school history with 127 victories.

The Cardinals will wrestle at home for the first time on Wednesday, hosting the University of Chicago at 7 p.m.
