DECATUR, Ill. (Apr. 11, 2009) - The North Central College men's golf team placed seventh in a large field for the second consecutive weekend, putting together a strong second round to hold its position at the Millikin University Big Blue Spring Classic, held Friday and Saturday at Red Tail Run Golf Course.
The Cardinals opened play on Friday with a total of 323, but posted a round of 310 on Saturday to finish with a final score of 633. North Central was just two strokes away from sixth place and eight shots away from a tie for third place. Illinois Wesleyan University cruised to the team championship, firing a 580 to top second-place Indian Hills Community College by 30 strokes.
IWU's Bennett Blakeman was also the top individual finisher, tallying a four under-par total of 140 for the 36-hole tournament. The Cardinals' top finisher was
Chris Kaiser, who shot a 154.
Also figuring into the scoring for North Central were
Jacob Thompson, who finished 24th with 157,
Matt Pierce, 32nd with 158, and
Nick Guido, 57th with 164.
The Cardinals host North Park University and Aurora University on Wednesday at Naperville Country Club.
