ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (Apr. 21, 2009) - Competed against a field comprised almost exclusively of NCAA Division II competition, the North Central College women's golf team held its own at the Lewis University Aviator Classic on Sunday and Monday, placing eighth out of 12 teams at Prairie Bluff Golf Course.
The Cardinals stood in seventh place after Sunday's opening round, turning in a score of 341. On Monday, however, adverse weather conditions forced most teams to shoot significantly higher scores, and North Central fired a 376 to finish with a total of 717. Drury University (Mo.), ranked 25th among Division II institutions, won the team title with a score of 629.
Northern Kentucky University's Alicia Stauffacher was the top individual finisher, carding a 36-hole total of 151.
Alyssa Gaudio paced North Central by tying for 23rd place with a score of 171, while
Mallory Carr was just one stroke behind in a tie for 26th.
Jessica Struthers finished 49th with a score of 186, while
Ashley Pincus was 52nd with 188 and
Jennifer Koonce placed 55th with 192.
North Central travels to Bonnie Brook Golf Course in North Chicago on Friday to participate in the Robert Morris College Invitational.
