May 14, 2009 - For the second time in a week, North Central College pole vaulter
Rachel Secrest has established a new NCAA Division III national record, surpassing her own record with a first-place effort in the Gregory Invitational at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
Secrest's winning vault of 13 feet, 5 1/4 inches (4.10 meters), topping the national record of 13'2 1/4" (4.02m) set in North Central's Dr. Keeler Invitational the previous week. Her outdoor personal best prior to this season was 13'0 3/4".
The Gregory Invitational continues through Friday. Secrest and the Cardinals will travel to Marietta, Ohio, May 21-23 for the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships, where she will seek to add an individual outdoor championship to the indoor crown she won in March.
