Men's Golf Places Fifth at CCIW Championships

For the second straight season, the North Central College men's golf team ranks fifth among College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin teams, as the CCIW wrapped up its annual championship with the third and fourth rounds at Whisper Creek Golf Club.

The Cardinals were tied for fourth place after 36 holes with a total of 596, but back-to-back rounds of 319 on Friday and Saturday left North Central with a final score of 1234 for 72 holes. The Cardinals' score was 55 strokes better than their total at the 2008 championships.

Illinois Wesleyan University turned in a score of 1165 to win the team title, finishing 23 strokes better than second-place Carthage College. IWU's Bennett Blakeman finished with a three under-par total of 285 to win the CCIW individual championship.

The Cardinals' top individual finisher was Nick Guido, who tied for 15th with a score of 308. Joshua Brantner carded a 310 to finish in a tie for 18th place, while Chris Kaiser and Matt Pierce finished in a tie for 21st with 311 and Jacob Thompson tied for 28th place with 319.
