May 8, 2009 – The North Central College women's track and field team took advantage of a return home Thursday and Friday, improving two national qualifying marks and recording another in the Dr. Keeler Invitational at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
The highlight of the meet for the Cardinals was the performance of
Rachel Secrest, who established an NCAA Division III national record in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 2 ¼ inches to win the event. Secrest, the 2009 NCAA Division III indoor national champion, moves to the top of the list of qualifiers for the outdoor national championships. She also placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 17'6”.
Improving a provisional qualifying mark was
Brandye Jackson, who finished second in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.65 seconds. North Central's third qualifying mark in the meet came from
Brianna Tolliver, whose mark of 129 feet, six inches in the javelin throw provisionally qualified her for the national championships and broke the North Central College record by nearly 10 feet.
Tristan Theissing placed second in the shot put, posting a distance of 40'3 ¼”, while
Annie Adamson placed third in the triple jump (36'11”) and
Yvonne Palmer finished fifth in the pole vault (11'2 ¼”).
The Cardinals host the Gregory Invitational on Thursday and Friday.
