Brad Spencer is among eight NCAA Division III coaches who will take part in Global Football's 2009 Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) on Dec. 19 in Monterrey, Mexico.
Spencer, the Cardinals' wide receivers coach since 2004, will assist with the coaching of Team Stars & Stripes, which will include 50 of the top NCAA Division III players in the nation. Team Stars & Stripes, with former LaSalle University, Delaware Valley College and Widener University coach Bill Manlove serving as head coach, will take on Tec de Monterrey University at the Tec Monterrey Campus Estado de Mexico.
The traveling group of players, coaches and support staff will practice at the Tec Monterrey facility near Mexico City from Dec. 14 to 18 and will also visit the Aztec Pyramids and the nation's capital before facing their Mexican opponents on Saturday, Dec.19.
Tec Monterrey is the premier private university system in Mexico, with campuses in numerous locations around the country. Tec teams have captured eight of the past ten Liga Major football national championships. The Tec Stars will announce their head coach at a press conference on Oct. 9 prior to the annual clash between CEM (Campus Estado de Mexico) and Tec Monterrey.
Coach Manlove, who presided over the Aztec Bowl US team in 2006 and 2007, having compiled a 212-110-1 record, in 32 years of coaching, including an impressive 182-53-1 record at Widener. He led the Pioneers to two NCAA Division III championships, seven playoff berths and 10 Middle Atlantic Conference titles and earned AFCA National Coach of the Year honors in 1977 when he led Widener to its first Division III title.
Also included among Manlove's coaching staff are Central College (Iowa) defensive coordinator Don DeWaard, Adrian College (Mich.) head coach Jim Lyall, Augustana College head coach Jim Barnes, Ohio Northern University head coach Dean Paul, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire head coach Todd Glaser and John Carroll University (Ohio) head coach Regis Scafe.
