JOLIET, Ill. (Sept. 3, 2009) - For the first time in its history, the North Central College women's golf team has started off the season with a victory, taking first place in the four-team University of St. Francis Invitational at Inwood Golf Course.
The Cardinals' 18-hole team score of 346 easily afforded them the top spot in the standings, as they topped the host Saints by 13 strokes. North Central posted three of the top four individual finishes in the field.
Alyssa Gaudio turned in a score of 81 to claim individual medalist honors, while
Mallory Carr and Marissa Miko carded identical scores of 83. Carr was awarded second place in a three-way scorecard playoff, while Miko finished fourth.
Jessica Struthers, playing as an individual, tallied a 92, while
Jennifer Koonce rounded out the Cardinals' scoring with a 99.
North Central travels to Foss Park Golf Course in North Chicago on Friday to take part in the Robert Morris University Fall Classic, at which the Cardinals placed second last season. The first groups are set to tee off at 9 a.m.
