Dec. 9, 2010 - The North Central College wrestling team is ranked 24th among NCAA Division III squads, according to the most recent Brute/Adidas Coaches' Poll released by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

The Cardinals are one of two College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin teams among the 30 ranked in the poll, as Elmhurst College is ranked 28th.

Last season's Division III national runner-up, Wartburg College (Iowa), occupies the No. 1 spot in the poll, followed by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Coe College (Iowa), Ithaca College (N.Y.) and St. John's University (Minn.)

The NWCA also released the latest edition of its individual Top 10 rankings for each weight class. North Central's Nathan Fitzenreider continues to be rated fourth nationally at 133 pounds. Fizenreider was a CCIW champion and national championships qualifier at 133 last season, and is 8-0 with three pins to start this season.

The Cardinals host the 47th annual North Central College Invitational on Saturday. The tournament, which includes seventh-ranked Concordia College (Minn.) and 27th-ranked Olivet College (Mich.) among the competing teams, is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. The next NWCA rankings will come out Wednesday, Dec. 22.
