EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Feb. 6, 2010) - The North Central College wrestling team sent a small contingent of competitors to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational on Saturday, and the Cardinals turned in an 11th-place finish out of 13 teams at the McPhee Physical Education Center.
North Central finished with 60 points, while No. 1-ranked Augsburg College was first with 221.
The Cardinals' efforts were paced by
Sean Tomac, who placed fourth at 125 pounds. After drawing a bye to the quarterfinals, Tomac defeated Louis Mazzetta of Luther College, 3-1, to advance to the semifinal. A tough 2-0 loss to Augsburg's Josh Roberts sent Tomac to the third-place match, where he was beaten, 7-4, by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh's Carl Deluca.
Placing sixth for North Central were
J.T. Rowe at 133 and
Andrew Mendoza at 285.
The Cardinals host the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships on Thursday at Gregory Arena, beginning at 5 p.m.
