CHICAGO (Apr. 10, 2010)-- Jake Winder established a new outdoor school record in the pole vault as the North Central College men's track & field squad claimed five events to win the team title at the 21-team Chicagoland Outdoor Championships on Saturday.

North Central finished with 168 points with host University of Chicago placing second with 123.5 points. Division I University of Illinois-Chicago was third (106 points) with College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin rival Carthage College finishing a distant fourth (59 points).

Winder cleared 18 feet 1/2 inch to win the event, a full 17 inches higher than the automatic qualifying standard for Division III and almost one foot higher than the previous outdoor school record, held by current assistant coach Mike Bina '08 (17' 2"). The senior was part of a top four sweep of the pole vault as Thomas Stacey cleared a provisional qualifying height of 15'5" to place second while Steven Stack (14'11") and John Wood (14'5 1/4") placed third and fourth, respectively.

In the high jump, Matt Borchardt cleared 6'5" to win the event while also recording a second place showing in the long jump with a leap of 22' 1/4".

On the track, Dan Benton raced to the win in the 400-meter dash, clocking a 48.53, finishing three hundredths of a second shy of the provisional qualifying standard while Sean Carlson claimed the 3,000-meter steeplechase with teammate Chris Kane finishing shortly behind in second. Carlson crossed the tape in  9:35.88 with Kane finishing in 9:37.64.

Joe Schneiderbauer put forth a dominating effort in the decathlon, winning five of the 10 events to finish first with a provisional qualifying score of 6,409. The sophomore claimed victories in the shot put, high jump, 400-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles and the javelin throw.

James Hoffman tallied a second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 55.86 with Jon Howard placing third in 56.81. Also notching third place finishes were Dayton Henriksen in the 200-meter dash (22.36), Alex Knobloch in the 5,000-meters (15:18.87) and the 4x100-meter relay squad (42.98).
