Women's Tennis Blasts Red Devils, 8-1

EUREKA, Ill. (Apr. 22, 2010)-- Returning to the courts after a 24-day layoff, the North Central College women's tennis team showed little signs of rust, winning all three doubles matches in route to a decisive 8-1 victory over host Eureka College on Wednesday afternoon.

April Conover and Jessica Ignarski blanked the Red Devil's No. 3 doubles tandem of Rachel Funk and Megan Adkins, 8-0, while at No. 1, Alicia DeGrado and Cory Schillerstrom dispensed Meredith Lynch and Alyssa Wetterauer, 8-2. Elizabeth Micheletti and Allison Paschold ensured the Cardinal sweep in doubles play with the, 8-4, win at No. 2.

In singles, Schillerstrom took down Lynch, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 1 action for her third straight victory, improving to 18-11 on the season. DeGrado notched the, 6-2, 6-1, victory over Wetterauer at No. 2 while Paschold prevailed, 6-1, 6-0, over Funk in No. 4 action. Conover claimed her seventh straight singles victory, rolling past Adkins, 6-1, 6-0, to improve to 22-2 on the season while Ignarski posted the, 6-0, 6-1, win at No. 6 singles.

With the win, North Central improves to 12-5 overall and 1-2 during the spring season while Eureka falls to 3-8. The Cardinals return to the courts on Friday, May 7, traveling down to Bloomington, Ill. for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Spring Automatic Qualifier Tournament.
