RIVER FOREST, Ill. (Apr. 24, 2010) - Even with 22 of its members competing at the Drake Relays, the North Central College men's track and field team encountered little resistance at the Concordia University (Ill.) Cougar Invitational on Friday, nearly tripling its closest competitor in claiming the team trophy.
The Cardinals won seven events and scored 248 points. The host Cougars were a distant second with 88 points.
James Hoffman picked up two first-place finishes for North Central, winning the 110-meter hurdles (16.82) and the 400-meter hurdles (56.61).
Cambron Culpepper added a victory in the 400-meter dash (49.79), and the 4x100 (43.74) and 4x400-meter relays (3:26.20) were victorious as well.
Daniel Buys won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:37.8), with
Yonatan Mascote following in third place (9:51.4), and
Thomas Stacey and
John Wood were first and second, respectively, in the pole vault, each clearing 14 feet, 9 inches.
Other second-place finishes were recorded by
Daniel Kerley in the 5,000-meter run (15:27.98),
Robert Kapustka in the discus throw (152'11"), and
Andrew Carlson in the high jump (6'1 1/4"), while third-place efforts came from
Matthew Brinkmeier in the 1,500-meter run (4:00.52),
Kyle Haste in the long jump (21'0"),
Mason Casper in the triple jump (40'0"),
Robert Champion in the hammer throw (153'11"),
Adam Hamilton in the javelin throw (158'11"), and
Eric Oros in the high jump (5'11 1/4").
The Cardinals travel to the Benedictine University Invitational on Friday. Action is scheduled to get under way at 3 p.m.
