Complete ITA Award Winners
May 17, 2010-- The accolades continue for North Central College men's tennis player
Sam Sweeney who was recently honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as the Central Region Player to Watch.
Sweeney, ranked third in the ITA Central Region rankings, captures the award after compiling a 18-3 mark during the spring season at No. 1 singles, finishing College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play with a perfect 5-0 record for the second consecutive season. The junior was 3-2 against regionally-ranked opposition during the spring while in the fall advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Central Region Tournament hosted by DePauw University on Sep. 25-28.

Matt Boguslawski concluded the season with an 18-3 mark, winning their final seven matches of the season. The duo completed the conference season unbeaten, winning the CCIW No. 1 doubles title for the second straight season.
This is the third award in less than a week for Sweeney who on Thursday was honored as the CCIW Player of the Year for the second straight season while also claiming First Team All-CCIW honors. The junior has additionally been tabbed as the CCIW Player of the Week on two occasions during the 2010 season.
The ITA Player to Watch award is open to players who are second or third year players participating in NCAA Division III singles or doubles. The player's school must be a current ITA member, and the player should have had an outstanding collegiate year but has not yet reached the finals of an ITA National event or has not won an ITA Regional Championship event. Regional and National winners may be named the Player to Watch only once during his/her collegiate career.
Sweeney became North Central's first men's tennis player to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships, earning a spot in the 32-player singles tournament to be contested from May 27-30 at Oberlin College (Ohio).
