June 23, 2010 – North Central College has finished 25th among all NCAA Division III athletics programs in the final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup all-sports standings for the 2009-2010 academic year, released Wendesday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

The Cardinals scored 531.50 points for the year, 195 of which came during the spring season. North Central received 100 points for winning the Division III National Championship in men's outdoor track and field, 45 points for finishing 29th at the women's outdoor track championships, and 25 points each from the baseball and softball teams, each of which qualified for NCAA Tournament competition.

North Central's 25th-place finish is its third highest Directors' Cup placing ever, and is its highest since finishing 22nd in the final standings in 1998-99. The Cardinals' point total is its highest ever under the current scoring system. North Central finished 30th last year.

North Central ranks second among College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin institutions, as Illinois Wesleyan University finishes fifth overall (704.25). Carthage College finishes 28th (490.50), followed by Wheaton College (84th, 214.00), Augustana College (118th, 163.00), Elmhurst College (204th, 85.00), Millikin University (306th), 23.00) and North Park University (308th, 15.50). 310 of the 440 NCAA Division III institutions appeared in the Directors' Cup standings.

Williams College (Mass.) finished first in Division III with 1,292.25 points.

The Directors' Cup is a program that honors institutions maintaining a broad-based program, achieving success in many sports, both men's and women's. Begun in 1993-94 for Division I by NACDA and USA Today, it was expanded in 1995-96 to include Division II, III and the NAIA.
