Official Release

June 25, 2010 – North Central College's Alex Knobloch has been named the 2010 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Man of the Year.

Knobloch was chosen through a voting process conducted by the CCIW Senior Woman Administrators and Faculty Athletics Representatives. He was part of a group of five other nominees, including North Park University's Alex Drake (soccer), Wheaton College's Brian Kolb (baseball), Illinois Wesleyan University's Nick Nikolich (football), Elmhurst College's Jake Oster (wrestling), and Augustana College's Blaine Westemeyer (football).

Knobloch, a biology major who graduated with a grade-point average of 4.0, was a member of the travel squad as an alternate for North Central's national championship-winning cross country team this past season. Knobloch was a conference champion in the distance medley relay at the 2010 CCIW Indoor Track & Field Championships, while also placing third in the mile. He also earned all-conference recognition in the 1,500 and 5,000-meter runs at the CCIW Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Knobloch is the recipient of the North Central College Presidential Scholarship, was a CCIW Academic All-Conference member in each of his four seasons, and was a North Central College Scholar-Athlete award winner as a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior, having obtained the highest grade point average among all athletes in his respective class.

He is also a member of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society (Gamma Nu Chapter), as well as the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society (Illinois Mu Chapter). In addition, Knobloch is the recipient of the 2008 and 2009 Etheldred L. Schafer Pre-Medical Scholarship, and participated in the North Central College Summer Research Program in 2008 and 2009.

Knobloch is also an active member of the community, taking part in the Circle K Service Club, as well as being a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Blue Key Honor Society, and is treasurer of the Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society.

The CCIW Man of the Year award was established in 2008 to recognize the conference's top male student-athlete. North Central student-athletes have claimed each of the three Man of the Year Awards that have been presented, with wrestler Adam Johnson '08 earning the award in 2008 and another wrestler, Ben Youel '09, winning last year.
