July 14, 2010 – North Central College linebacker Matt Wenger has been named to the 2010 NCAA Division III Preseason All-America Second Team by D3football.com.

Wenger, who sat out the 2009 season after suffering an injury in the season opener, is one of three linebackers on the Second Team, joining Kyle McGivney of Luther College (Iowa) and Ralph Pineda of Willamette University (Ore.) Kyle Gesswein of Delaware Valley College (Pa.), Sam Kershaw of Mount Union College (Ohio) and Will Hawkins of Millsaps College (Miss.) were selected to the First Team.

Wenger was named a First Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection, as well as the CCIW's Defensive Player of the Year, in 2008 after leading the league in tackles (137) and interceptions (8), while also totaling 12.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 quarterback sacks. He was the CCIW's Defensive Player of the Week four times.

He was also named to the national 'Team of the Week' three times by D3football.com, which also selected him to its All-North Region First Team, and he was one of four linebackers named to the Coaches' All-America Team by the American Football Coaches Association.

Wenger is one of two CCIW representatives on the Preseason All-America Teams. Carthage College punter Tyler Funk was named to the First Team.

North Central opens the 2010 season Sept. 4 at Cornell College (Iowa).
