Oct. 22, 2012 - Whether it's dancing before the game or scoring a goal during it,
Hope Stayer knows how to move her feet. The North Central College junior women's soccer player has scored 27 goals so far in her career at North Central, which leaves her only one goal shy of second in school history and 11 short of the school record. The
athletic training major is third in school history in points with 55.
In her freshman campaign, Hope started all 15 games in which she played. She led the team in goals (9) and points (18). She netted three multiple goal games, including two hat tricks.
Last season, Hope played in 17 games for the Cardinals, starting 15 of them. She once again led the team in goals (8) and points (16). She scored two game winning goals, including a hat trick against Lakeland College.
So far this season, Hope has scored 13 of the team's 24 goals, including three-game winners, and has played a lead role in putting the Cardinals in position to possibly obtain their first berth in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament.
Q: How long have you been playing soccer?
A: I started playing when I was five.
Q: What is your pre-game ritual?
A: My favorite thing to before a game is to dance.
Q: Who is your favorite soccer player?
A: Christiano Ronaldo.
Q: What do you like most about playing for first-year head coach
Bonnie Young?
A: She's really supportive and a great people person. She also gives great criticism, good or bad. She's awesome.
Q: Have you ever played any other sports outside of soccer?
A: In high school I ran cross-country and track. I also played basketball.
Q: What is your favorite class you have taken so far at North Central?
A: Anatomy with
Professor John Zenchak.
Q: Are you involved in any other activities on campus?
A: I go to
Focus and attend
Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) meetings whenever I'm able.
Q: What do you like most about being an
athletic training major?
A: The hands on experience, it's really helpful going in and doing clinicals and working with sports. You learn a lot more and there are many things that you have to adapt to.
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: I have to go to grad school for three years. After that I'm planning on doing physical therapy and working in a clinic somewhere.
Q: Who is your biggest role model?
A: I would have to say both of my parents; they are both really great people.
