VALPARAISO, Ind. (May 8, 2012)—
The North Central College baseball team was unable to muster up a run against Division I opponent Valparaiso University on Tuesday afternoon, falling by an 8-0 margin inside Emory Bauer Field.
 
Cardinal (20-18) starting pitcher Sam Klein held Valparaiso scoreless through the first three innings but in the bottom of the fourth inning, John Loeffler got the Crusaders (26-21) on the board with a sacrifice foul-out to right field.
 
Valparaiso added another run in the fifth on a Spencer Mahoney RBI single before plating three runs in the sixth.  Andrew Bain's 2-RBI single to center field followed by Will Hagel's bases loaded walk, increased the Crusader advantage to 5-0.
 
In the bottom of the eighth the Crusaders added three more insurance runs on a trio of RBI singles, to take the decisive 8-0 victory.
 
Klein gave up five runs over 5 2/3 innings while striking out three and walking one.
 
The Cardinals host North Park University for the final game of the season on Sunday, April 13 at Zimmerman Stadium.  First pitch is slated for 1 pm with Senior Day festivities pre-game.
