Apr. 15, 2014 - Playing in a game decided by a single goal for the second straight outing, the North Central College women's lacrosse team suffered a loss at home for the first time in 2014 on Tuesday, losing, 14-13, to Concordia University Wisconsin at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The visiting Falcons benefited from a North Central turnover in the final minute to score the game-winner.

Trailing, 13-10, with 12:19 to play, the Cardinals (5-4, 4-1 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference) turned to sophomore attacker Gina Fisher to get back into contention. Fisher scored two goals in an 18-second span to narrow the gap to 13-12, then assisted Mallory Bahr on a game-tying score with 11:15 to play. Both teams had opportunities to move ahead, and each saw its goalkeeper come up big. Concordia keeper Veronika Metanova stopped two shots on goal and the Cardinals had a third shot glance off the post, while Cardinal netminder Sandy Stasaitis saved two shots as well.

With just under a minute to play, North Central attempted to clear the ball out of its own end but lost control, enabling the Falcons' Hannah Redden to scoop up the ball and score the game's decisive goal with 29 seconds to go. The Cardinals had one final attempt to extend the contest into overtime, but Metanova came up with another save just before time expired.

After allowing the game's first goal, North Central scored five straight to take a 5-1 advantage after 10 minutes of play in the first half. The Falcons (9-3, 5-1 MWLC) responded with three goals in the next four minutes, then went on another 3-0 surge in the final minutes of the half to take a 7-6 lead into halftime. Fisher tied the game with a free-position goal just after play resumed, but Concordia bounced back with another run of three straight scores and never trailed again.

Fisher tied a school record with seven goals while recording seven draw controls, five caused turnovers and a North Central single-game record 14 ground balls. Fisher also broke the Cardinals' career record for ground balls (140).

Sammi Reiter scored a game-high eight goals for Concordia, while Metanova saved 12 shots on goal.
