Feb. 15, 2017 – Jumping out to a double-digit lead less than four minutes into the contest, the North Central College women's basketball team connected on a season-high 21 three-pointers en route to a 104-54 trouncing of Carroll University on Wednesday in the final home game of the season.
North Central (12-11, 6-8 CCIW) finished the game shooting 21-of-57 from three-point range, including 12 second-half threes, while also tying the program record with 11 blocked shots on the evening.
The Cardinals scored the opening seven points of the contest, as
Jamie Cuny opened the scoring with a layup, followed by three-pointer from
Caroline Heimerdinger and a layup from
Shannon Ryan.
North Central opened up a 15-4 lead with 5:29 to play in the opening quarter, as
Michaela Reedy completed a three-point play, while a
Lyndsay Brennan long ball increased the lead even further a few possessions later.
The offense continued to roll in the second quarter, opening up the largest lead of the first half right before the halftime buzzer as
Natali Dimitrova connected from deep to give North Central a 48-27 lead heading into the intermission.
The second half featured much of the same domination from the Cardinals both offensively and defensively, shooting at a 70 percent clip in the fourth quarter on 7-of-10 shooting from three, while forcing 30 total turnovers on defense.
North Central led by 30-plus points the entire fourth quarter, completely wearing down the Pioneers (1-21, 1-13 CCIW) in the end.
18 of the 19 Cardinals scored in the contest, led by Ryan's 14 points of a perfect 7-of-7 shooting from the field, while
Jessica Dahle added 12 and
Paula Zerante scored 10.
Maya Walls grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Brennan dished out five assists. Cuny led the team with five blocked shots, while Dimitrova finished with a career-best three blocks.
Morgan Lund led the Pioneer offense with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Brittney Wald also finished with a double-double, recording 16 points and 10 boards.
North Central travels to Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, Feb. 18 with tip-off slated for 5 p.m. inside the Shirk Center.
