BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Jan. 24, 2018) – Facing arguably the most difficult opponent to date this season, the North Central College women's basketball team dropped a 108-54 decision at 17th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University at the Shirk Center on Wednesday.
The Cardinals (4-14, 2-7 CCIW) hung tough early, as a jumped from
Mayson Whipple knotted the score 12-12 at the five-minute mark of the opening quarter, but it was all downhill from there for the North Central offense as Illinois Wesleyan closed the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 22-12 lead after the first quarter.
The Titans (16-2, 9-0 CCIW) continued that run into the second quarter, rattling off 17 straight points while the Cardinals misfired on the first five attempts of the quarter while committing five turnovers as Illinois Wesleyan opened up a 39-12 advantage with 5:58 to play before halftime.
Illinois Wesleyan took a 35-point lead into the intermission and cruised the rest of the way, shooting 56 percent from the field while holding a 35-15 margin in turnovers.
Whipple finished with a team-high 11 points, two assists and three steals for North Central, while
Rebekah Foley added nine points and six rebounds.
Five Titans finished in double figures, led by 21 from Samantha Munroe, hitting on 5-of-11 three-point attempts. Molly McGraw finished with 17, while Maddie Merritt and Raven Hughes each added 13. Kendall Sosa finished with 10 points and a game-high nine assists, as the Titans assisted on 30-of-41 field goals on the evening.
