Dan Mayer's legacy lives on today as holder of numerous school, conference and national records. He was a three-time All-American in cross country and National Champion at the 1993 NCAA III meet. 

In track, his 1994 10,000 meter time set the national record which still stands. Mayer was two-time National Champion in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the NCAA III Outdoor Meet in 1993 and 1994. In 1993, he posted times of 14:22.37 in the 5,000 and 29:27.21 in the 10,000. In 1994, his times were 14:20.49 and 28:53.22, respectively. He also set a national record in the 5,000 meter at the 1994 NCAA Indoors with a time of 13:53.17.

At the conference level, Mayer was 1993 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin cross country champion while finishing second in 1992, third in 1991 and fourth in 1990. In track, he still holds the conference record in the 10,000 metes (29:43.9) set in 1993 and was also 5,000-meter champion in 1994. He graduated with a degree in accounting.
