SOMERS, Wis. (Apr. 21, 2010) - The North Central College men's golf team placed fourth at the Carthage College Spring Invitational on Tuesday, as each of the Cardinals' four scoring golfers were within five strokes of each other at Kenosha Country Club.
North Central's total of 315 was just one stroke short of matching Carroll University's (Wis.) third-place score of 314. A junior varsity squad from Carthage won the event with a score of 294, defeating the Red Men's varsity squad by seven strokes.
Carthage's Andy Wojciechowicz earned individual medalist honors by firing a one over-par 71 on the 6,551-yard, par-70 layout.
Matt Grennell was the Cardinals' top overall finisher, tying for 10th place with a score of 76. Grennell's score was one short of the season-best 75 he carded at the CCIW Championships on Saturday.
Nick Guido tied for 16th in the individual standings with a score of 78, while
Joshua Brantner was 22nd (80) and
Steven Panek was 25th (81).
North Central participates in the Scot-Fire Invitational, hosted by Monmouth College and Knox College, on Friday and Saturday. The first round will be played Friday at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth, Ill., with Saturday's second round to be played at Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg, Ill.
