Nov. 5, 2019 – The North Central College women's cross country team has earned the No. 6 ranking in the seventh installment of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Rankings, following a second-place finish at the 2019 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships on Saturday.
The Cardinals—who scored 64 points to finish behind Wheaton College (47 points)—had plenty to be proud of at Saukie Golf Conference over the weekend.
Dianne Barajas became the program's first individual champion since 2011 and received CCIW Female Athlete of the Year honors.
Jenna Yakesh finished fifth to join Barajas on the All-Conference First Team, while
Jenna Fiore and
Nikki Rong landed All-Conference Second Team honors by finishing 14th and 16th, respectively.
The top-four spots of this week's regional rankings remained unchanged from last time around: Washington (Mo.) is No. 1, followed by the University of Chicago, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The Thunder replaced the Cardinals as the fifth-ranked team.
Behind North Central, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is seventh, Elmhurst College is eighth, Carroll University is ninth, and Edgewood College enters the regional rankings in tenth.
