Scoring the three most decisive victories of the evening, the North Central College wrestling team opened up the home portion of its schedule Wednesday with a 20-15 win over the University of Chicago Maroons at Gregory Arena.

The ninth-ranked Cardinals (5-1) split the 10 matches evenly with Chicago, but the extra points provided by Gabe Youel's win by pin at 184 pounds and the major decisions posted by Nathan Fitzenreider at 133 and Danny Deufel at 165 provided the difference.

North Central opened up with a pair of victories, as Joe Norton won by decision and Fitzenreider followed by improving to 6-0 with his win. The Maroons' Joseph Ruettiger, Matt Hart and James Layton won by decision at 141, 149 and 157, respectively, giving the visitors a 9-7 advantage in the team tally.

Deufel put the Cardinals back in front, Cowan Brown won by decision at 174, and Youel notched his second pin of the season after 4:26 had elapsed in his match. Brown and Youel both improved to 6-0 for the season, and Youel, with 128 career victories, needs one more win to tie Darrick Snyder '00 for third place in school history.

North Central travels to the Concordia University (Wis.) Open on Saturday.
