Four Cardinals Receive Academic Honor

NSCAA Scholar All-Central Region Team

Jan. 3, 2011-- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced its Scholar All-Central Region team with North Central College women's soccer players Emma Bader, Amy Frazzini, Erin Martin and Nora Wessels earning Honorable Mention selections.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member; be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution; be in her second year at the current school if she is a transfer student; and submit an official copy of a certified transcript.

In total, 11 student athletes from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin were honored. North Central and Millikin University each had four athletes honored while Illinois Wesleyan University had three players earn Scholar All-Region recognition.

Bader, a midfielder and Spanish major, makes the team after starting all 17 games for the Cardinals in 2010, scoring two goals and two assists, including the game winner goal in the season opener on Sept. 1 against Lakeland College (Wis.).

Frazzini, a goalkeeper and biology major, earns the award after starting all 17 games for the Cardinals and logging 1,532 of the team's 1,570 minutes in goal. The junior logged 74 saves on the year and posted a 1.47 goals against average while recording three shutouts and combining on an additional two. Had a career-high 10 saves on Oct. 27 against 15th-ranked Augustana College, helping the Cardinals to a 1-1 double overtime tie. The goalkeeper was additionally named CCIW Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 21 after posting back-to-back shutouts against Eureka College (Ill.) and Mount Mercy College (Iowa), helping the Cardinals claim their second straight Sal Vaccaro Tournament Title.

Martin, a defender and English Writing major, earns honorable mention accolades after starting in 16 of the team's 17 games, finishing third on the team in points. The junior tallied three goals and one assist on the season including the game winning goal on Sept. 18 against Eureka in the opening round of the Sal Vaccaro Tournament.

Wessels, a forward and German major, is honored after playing in all 17 games for the Cardinals, finding the back of the net on three occasions in 2010. The senior appeared in every game in each of the last four seasons for the Cardinals, a span totaling 68 games.

North Central closed out its 2010 campaign on a four-match unbeaten streak, finishing the season with a 7-8-2 overall mark and a 1-4-2 record in CCIW play. In November the team was honored with the NSCAA Team Academic Award, compiling a team grade point average of 3.30.
