NWCA Individual Rankings
Nov. 10, 2011 - The North Central College wrestling team continues to be ranked 11th among NCAA Division III institutions, according to the most recent rankings released by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
The Cardinals were also 11th in the NWCA's preseason rankings, which were released in late October. North Central is one of three College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) teams in the NWCA's top 30, as Elmhurst College is 14th and Augustana College is 24th.
Wartburg College (Iowa), the defending Division III national champion, maintains its position as the nation's top-ranked team. The top five also includes the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Coe College (Iowa), Ithaca College (N.Y.) and Cornell College (Iowa). The top eight spots in the poll were unchanged from the preseason rankings.
The Cardinals also have three wrestlers in the NWCA's individual weight-class rankings, as Nathan Fitzenreider is ranked first at 133 pounds, Andrew Zobac is fifth at 141, and Eric Oyster is sixth at 157.
Fitzenreider and Zobac both won a match during the Cardinals' first competition date of the season on Sunday at Northern Illinois University. Fitzenreider won by pin over NIU's Rob Jillard, while Zobac defeated Stanford University's Alex Manley by decision.
North Central travels to Lakeland College for the Muskie Invitational on Saturday. Action is set to begin at 9 a.m.
