2013 AFCA NCAA Division III Coaches' All-America Team
Dec. 16, 2013 - North Central College quarterback Spencer Stanek has been named to the 2013 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) NCAA Division III Coaches' All-America Team. The AFCA announced the 25 selections to this year's team on Monday.
Stanek, the only quarterback selected to the AFCA All-America Team, finished the 2013 campaign as the Cardinals' all-time single-season leader in completions (264), completion percentage (.710), passing yards (3,495) and passing touchdowns (43) while throwing only two interceptions in 372 attempts. He ranks second nationally in touchdown passes and passing efficiency (187.0) while ranking fourth in completion percentage.
Stanek played the final game of his collegiate career in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Football Championship on Saturday, as the Cardinals lost a narrow 41-40 decision to the defending national champion, the University of Mount Union. He finishes his career as North Central's all-time leader in passing efficiency (166.1) and completion percentage (.655) while ranking second in completions (546), attempts (833), yards (7,549) and touchdowns (75). He also rushed for 864 yards and 13 TDs.
Stanek was a First Team All-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) selection and the CCIW's Art Keller Offensive Player of the Year this season and was named to the D3football.com All-North Region Second Team. D3football.com's All-America Team will be released on Friday.
Stanek is one of two CCIW representatives on this year's All-America squad, joining Illinois Wesleyan University defensive lineman John Worley. No Division III institution had more than one All-America selection.
Stanek is the 21st North Central player to earn All-America accolades and the sixth to be so honored by the AFCA. Jim Witte was the Cardinals' first AFCA All-America pick in 1997, followed by Lenny Radtke in 2005, Matt Wenger in 2008 and 2010, Josh Delancy in 2009 and Kyle Fiedorowicz in 2011.
