Wrestling Finishes Fourth at CCIW Championships

WHEATON, Ill. (Feb. 21, 2013)—
The North Central Wrestling team turned in a fourth-place performance, including a pair of individual titles Thursday at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships, hosted by Wheaton College.
 
Elmhurst College ran away with the team title for the third consecutive season, amassing 110 total team points followed by Wheaton College (58 points), Augustana College (52 points) and North Central (48 points).
 
Nathan Fitzenreider was named CCIW Co-Outstanding Wrestler along with Elmhurst's Joseph Rau, while the Bluejays Steve Marianetti was named Coach of the Year.
 
Ranked second nationally, Fitzenreider claimed his third career individual CCIW championship at 133 pounds, fighting off third ranked Dalton Bullard in the championship by a 6-5 decision after an opening round bye.
 
At 149 pounds Nathan Segal earned his first career CCIW championship, defeating Elmhurst's Sean Raddatz by a 4-2 decision, advancing to the championship match where the sophomore would pull out a tough 5-4 decision over Augustana's Walter Piech.
 
The Cardinals also received a second-place finish from Nick Santos at 125 pounds.
