LISLE, Ill. (Apr. 27, 2013) - A performance including three first-place finishes and two school records concluded the North Central College women's track and field team's preparations for the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Championships, as the Cardinals placed second in a 15-team field at the Benedictine University Twilight Invitational.
North Central's total of 119.5 points ranked behind only NCAA Division I representative Marquette University, which put up 134. Illinois State University was third with 106.5 points, while Loyola University Chicago was a distant fourth with 62.5.
The Cardinals'
Elizabeth Composto, who entered the weekend ranked third among all NCAA Division III athletes in the pole vault, won the event Friday with a clearance of 12 feet, 2 1/2 inches. North Central's other two first-place finishes put athletes among the nation's top 10 as well.
Elana Ainsley won the 100-meter dash in 12.12 seconds, ranking her fifth nationally and making her the third-fastest in North Central history, while
Amanda Coglianese's winning time of 1:02.73 in the 400-meter hurdles ranks her eighth in Division III.
Lina Baker posted a mark of 157'4" in the hammer throw, placing third and breaking her own North Central varsity record.
Ebony Stallworth, meanwhile, placed third in the shot put and improved her own outdoor school record to 42'8 1/4".
Ainsley and Coglianese teamed with
Sade Gant and
Brittny Olson to finish second in the 4-by-100-meter relay (48.87). Olson also finished third in the 100-meter dash (12.59) which put her in North Central's all-time top 10.
Other third-place finishes came from
Krista Cota in the 1,500-meter run (4:46.90),
Jocelyn Redlinski in the 100-meter hurdles (14.97),
Erin Fitzgerald in the 800-meter run (2:18.11),
Amina Jackson in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.56),
Jordan Flowers in the high jump (5'1") and
Brooke Patterson in the pole vault (11'2 1/2"). Redlinski's time was a personal best and moved her into fourth place all-time at North Central.
The Cardinals travel to Millikin University on Friday and Saturday for the
CCIW Outdoor Championships, as they seek to claim their second CCIW outdoor title in three years. Events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. both days.
