ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (Apr. 7, 2013) - Extremely windy conditions and a large competitive field greeted the North Central College men's track and field team at the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships this weekend, but the top-ranked Cardinals made quick work of the field and achieved a sizable margin of victory over the 22-team assembly at Lewis University.

North Central's total of 178 points was well clear of runner-up DePaul University's score of 128, while Olivet Nazarene University was a distant third with 78.

The Cardinals turned in five first-place finishes, two of which came from Zach Heerspink. The senior won the high jump with a clearance of 6 feet, 6 3/4 inches, with teammates Kyle Pembrook and Femi Oyewole tying for third after clearing 6'4 3/4". Heerspink then established a personal best of 23'8 3'4" to win the long jump, moving into fifth in North Central history and recording one of the top NCAA Division III performances in the event thus far this outdoor season.

Joey Michals was clocked in 55.38 seconds and finished first in the 400-meter hurdles, and also finished second in the 110-meter hurdles in a wind-aided time of 15.20. Pembrook was third in the 110-meter event (15.51).

Frank Wleklinski placed first in the pole vault (15'3"), while Ryan Bartell placed first in the 1,500-meter run in 4:06.20. North Central's Aron Sebhat followed Bartell across the line in second place (4:09.40).

The Cardinals also got second-place showings from Marlen Hamilton in the 800-meter run (1:56.13), Joe McAvoy in the 10,000-meter run (32:26.91), David Janet in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:28.60) and Joseph Hletko in the decathlon (5,339 points). Hamilton teamed with Dionte Hackler, Derek Nelson and Dayton Henriksen to place second in the 4x400-meter relay (3:24.17), while Bartell and Sebhat joined Richard Ruske and Juliano Lodi for a second-place finish in the 4x800 relay (7:51.79).

Henriksen and Hackler ran with Matt Souvannasing and Abraham Oshipitan on North Central's 4x100 relay team, which finished third (42.49). Henriksen also placed third in the 200-meter dash (22.96), as did Adam Weidner in the shot put (47'11 3/4") and Nick Fridrich in the javelin throw (187'9"). Fridrich's throw was a personal best and moved him into sixth place in North Central history.

The Cardinals travel to Wheaton College on Friday for the Wheaton Quad.
