Apr. 9, 2013 - Recording another first in the program's five-year history, the North Central College women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) play on Tuesday, posting a 15-0 shutout over nearby rival Benedictine University at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
The shutout was the first in the program's history for the Cardinals (6-3, 4-0 MWLC), who took control early with 11 first-half goals and improved to 3-0 at home in 2013. It is just the third shutout in the three-year history of the MWLC.
Danielle Fiala and
Leea LoPresti led a balanced scoring effort with three goals each, while
Gina Fisher tallied two assists.
Claire Norfleet collected five draw controls and
Jacqui Morgan finished with four. The Cardinals' defense permitted Benedictine (1-7, 0-4) just four shots, and goalkeeper
Sarah Hon was called on to make only three saves as she kept the Eagles out of the net for the duration of the evening.
The Cardinals return to Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference play on Thursday, traveling to Concordia University Wisconsin for a 4:30 p.m. start. Live video and in-game statistics can be accessed at
