WAUKESHA, Wis. (Dec. 10, 2014) – The North Central College women's basketball team continues to set new marks in the program's record book as
Jamie Cuny became the first player to record a triple-double in the Cardinals 101-97 victory in comeback fashion over Carroll University on Wednesday night, extending its program best win streak to begin a season to eight.
Cuny finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks in her record setting performance, while her 10 blocked shots are also a new single-game record.
The Cardinals (8-0) held a 53-44 lead at the intermission, but the Pioneers (6-2) began the second half with a 13-3 run to quickly turn the tables and take a 57-56 advantage.
After the two teams traded leads, Carroll slowly built on its lead, taking its first double-digit lead with 8:21 remaining as a Emma Kopp lay-up put the Pioneers up 79-69.
Trailing 95-86 with just over three minutes remaining in the contest, the Cardinal offense found its groove at the right time, going on an 8-0 run in less than a minute, as a pair of
Maryssa Cladis free-throws got the rally started, followed by a pair of easy lay-ins from Cuny and two more free-throws from
Tess Godhardt cut the Pioneer lead 95-94.
After a Breann Maryanski lay-in gave the Pioneers a three-point lead with just over two minutes to play, back-to-back Godhardt lay-ups gave the Cardinals a 98-97 advantage with 1:17 on the game clock. On the next Cardinal possession,
Corrine Rowe delivered the dagger that would end Carroll's thoughts of a comeback, nailing a three-pointer and giving North Central the decisive 101-97 lead.
Godhardt led all Cardinal scorers with 24 points on 11 of 15 shooting from the field to go along with five steals.
Miranda Grizaffi tallied 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting from three-point range, while
Bobbi Johns added 14 points.
Maryanski led all scorers with 26 points and also grabbing a game-high 14 boards, while Rachel Van Sluys finished with 25 points off the bench for the Pioneers.
