ORLANDO, Fla. (March 25, 2014) ---The North Central College softball team wrapped up their final spring games in Florida on Tuesday with wins against Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), 8-0 and Oberlin College, 11-5. They are now on a five-game winning streak, including a no hitter from Vlasta Mangia.

The Cardinals (8-2) started the day with two runs in the first inning against RIT with RBIs from Bri Kiel and Mangia.  The second inning was a bit similar with single from Amanda Walker, scoring in Cecie Portillo and Bri Floyd where North Central took the lead up by four. 

Their final runs came in the third inning where the Cardinals made it 8-0 with RBIs from Taylor Ryan, Portillo and Kayla Antle. Starter Mangia gained three strikeouts and held the Engineers to only one walk as she secured her fourth no hitter in the softball program.

In the second game of the day and last of the trip, the women took on Oberlin College making it look easy once again.  The Yeowomen struck first with one run in the first and four in the second, but the Cardinals came back quick adding nine runs of their own within the first three innings.

 Andrea Starr pitched five innings with five strikeouts, holding Oberlin to just those five runs as the Cardinals offense took over with a home run from Walker, getting in two RBIs. North Central tacked on their final runs of the game in the fifth inning with single from Brooke Kehoe who struck in two RBIs. 

North Central came off their two wins on Monday against the University of St. Thomas and Buffalo State.

Against St. Thomas, the Cardinals showed off their offensive skills in the first inning by getting three runs with singles from Kehoe and Starr. St. Thomas only responded with three runs throughout the game as North Central added one more in the fourth with an RBI from Portillo, winning 4-3.

Going into the seventh inning of the Buffalo matchup, the Cardinals were down by one run.  After a single which led to two RBIs from Kelsey Hayen, the women kept the momentum up by adding 10 runs that inning alone, beating Buffalo 13-5.

The Cardinals fly back home and compete on Saturday at Monmouth College for a double header scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
