(Apr. 17, 2014) - Despite giving a handful of competitors the week off, the North Central College women's track and field team still finished at the top of the heap in the Wheaton College Don Church Twilight Meet on Thursday, winning six events and placing first in the nine-team field at McCully Stadium.
The 12th-ranked Cardinals totaled 162.50 points in the meet, while the University of Chicago placed second with 137 and Bethel University (Minn.) finished third with 105.
North Central swept the top three positions in the pole vault, as
Brooke Patterson's outdoor personal-best clearance of 12 feet, 1 1/2 inches gave her the win and moved her into a tie for the seventh-best performance among all NCAA Division III athletes thus far this season.
Elizabeth Composto finished second (11'7 3/4") and
Kelsey Truedson placed third (11'1 3/4"). The Cardinals also claimed the top two spots in the javelin throw, as
Claire Taylor won with a distance of 110'0" and
Sarah Steger finished second at 105'8".
Kelsey Kirk tied an outdoor personal best of 5'4 1/4" to win the high jump, with
Jocelyn Redlinski placing third at 5'2 1/4". Redlinski also turned in a first-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.69 seconds.
Nora Ferguson clocked an outdoor personal record of 2:14.85 in the 800-meter run to secure the win and move into sixth-place on North Central's all-time list, and
Ebony Stallworth won the shot put with a mark of 42'5 1/4".
Steger also finished second with a personal-best effort of 129'1" in the discus throw, while additional third-place finishes came from
Sade Gant in the 100-meter dash (12.72) and
Kailie Briza in the long jump (15'10 1/4").
The Cardinals are back in action Friday, Apr. 25 at the Benedictine University Invitational. Competition is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
