Nov. 6, 2015 – The North Central College wrestling team opened up their season competition with a tiebreaker win over University of Chicago Friday evening at Gregory Arena.

The Cardinals and Maroons were tied at 19 points apiece once the final match was settled but tiebreaker rules gave North Central the victory after compiling a 53-48 point advantage in individual matches.

North Central (1-0) jumped out to a very early lead, recording 13 points in the first three matches. The Cardinals would go on to only log six more points in the following seven matches however.
Miguel Silva earned a win by decision in the 125 weight class over Chicago's Louis Demarco, putting up a convincing 10-4 victory. The 133 weight class winner was also granted to North Central as Casey McWhirter produced a 17-4 major decision. Chicago would end up forfeiting the match to Layten Binion in the 141 class, giving the Cardinals a 13-0 lead.

Chicago (0-1) would fight back as they won the 149, 157, and 174 weight classes, all by decision. Josh Tardy returned from not competing the previous season and took the 165 class by a 8-4 decision. Vincent Pizzo would also contribute as he won a 6-1 decision at the 184 weight class. Going into the last two matches, the Cardinals held a 19-9 advantage.

The Maroons John Jayne would record six points for his team as he won by fall at the 197 weight class, bringing the score to 19-15. Chicago also won the 285 weight class by major decision, evening the score with no athletes left to compete. Despite his loss, Casey Greenberg escaped a pin late in the match which would have gave the visitors the victory but North Central would go on to win by a 53-48 advantage in total match points.

North Central travels to the Luther College Open on Saturday, November, 14th with start time at 9 am.
