Northwestern Dual
Chicago Dual

Evanston, Ill (Nov. 6, 2016) – Beginning the 2016-2017 season against two extremely difficult opponents, the North Central College wrestling team was defeated in both their duals at the Northwestern University Duals at the Welsh-Ryan Arena on Sunday evening.

The Cardinals opened their season facing Northwestern University, a team that struggled last season both overall and in conference competition. However, the Cardinals were no match for the Wildcats as they were defeated in every match, falling 41-0 to the hosts.

It would not get easier for North Central in the neutral dual as the Cardinals looked to bounce back against the Maroons of Chicago. The Cardinals found themselves in a quick 17-0 hole after the first four matches. A 5-0 decision by Vincent Pizzo at the 197 weight class followed by a 4-3 decision from Adrian Wroblewski would cut the deficit to 17-6. After Anthony Rink won by forfeit, the Cardinals were within striking distance of the Maroons, trailing 17-12 with just three matches remaining. Chicago would pick up another three points and put the pressure back on the Cardinals and unfortunately, the Maroons would take a 23-12 lead into the final match. Despite Ben Williamson winning by fall in the final match, North Central would lose by a final 23-18 and leave the tri-dual with a 0-2 record.

North Central will look to build upon this as the season moves forward, using this as motivation for the rest of the year.

The Cardinals travel to Angola, Indiana on Saturday, November 12 as they compete in the Trine University Invitational. Matches are scheduled to start at 9 am.
