Dec. 16, 2016 – The North Central College men's soccer team were on the recipients of several academic awards, highlighted by junior
Jon Borzick who was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-Region team for the NCAA Division III North and Central Regions.
Borzick, an Anthropology/Classical Civilizations major met the criteria to be nominated for the award, which includes a minimum of a 3.3 cumulative GPA, starting more than 50% of all games, being a significant contributor to the team, and be a junior or senior in academic standing.
The Cardinals also saw 12 out of 27 players earn Academic All-Conference honors from the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW). In order to be named Academic All-Conference, varsity letter winners must earn a 3.3 cumulative GPA or higher. Those honored were juniors Borzick,
Nate Donovan,
Ryan O'Deen and
Sean Woodford. Sophomores included
Calen Colbert,
Jared Collier Gavin Sanchez and
Joe Trocki. Freshman winners were
Alexis Flores,
PJ Garcia and
Paden Sanford.
Nationally, the 2015-16 season saw the team earn its sixth consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award for having a 3.0 or better team GPA. The team had a cumulative GPA of 3.075 for this fall, putting the team on track to win its seventh consecutive Team Academic Award this year.
The Cardinals finished the season with an overall record of 6-10-1 and a record of 3-5-0 in the CCIW.
