Feb. 13, 2016 - Headlined by its third school-record performance of the indoor season, the North Central College women's track and field team moved up in the standings late in the evening to secure a fourth-place finish in a 25-team field in the Chicagoland Indoor Championships, held Friday at Al B. Carius Track.

The Cardinals scored 12 points in the final two events to move up one spot to fourth place overall, scoring 66.5 points. The 19th-ranked University of Chicago won the meet with 117 points, followed by Lewis University (80) and Olivet Nazarene University (70). Chicago State University rounded out the top five with 63 points.

North Central saw its varsity record fall in the 20-pound weight throw, as Kayla Etherton unleashed a toss of 52 feet, 8 3/4 inches to establish a personal best of more than two feet and top the previous record of 51'9" set just last season by Ebony Stallworth '15. Etherton's effort placed her third in the event.

The Cardinals recorded three second-place finishes, the first of which came from Megan Costanzo in the 5,000-meter run. Her time of 17 minutes, 21.23 seconds was just off of her indoor personal best of 17:21.04 and ranks as the fifth-fastest among NCAA Division III athletes this season. Amanda Cortese came in second in the 3,000-meter run, clocking a personal-best time of 10:20.08 to move up to sixth in North Central history in the event, while Tori Capozziello hit the line in 2:18.74 to finish second in the 800-meter run. Capozziello's time was also a personal best.

Also recording a third-place showing was Courtney Meyer, who cleared 11'6 1/4" in the pole vault.

North Central remains at home next week, hosting the Cardinal Classic on Friday, Feb. 19. Competition is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
