Apr. 6, 2016 – North Central College's
Kelsey Forkin was selected as College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) women's tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday, after leading the Cardinals to three wins last week.
North Central (10-5) is riding a five-match winning streak, winning six of seven matches this spring as Forkin led the Cardinals with a 3-0 record in singles play at the No. 2 position last week, while going 2-1 in doubles competition to earn the program's first Player of the Week award since 2013.
Forkin began the week with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Purdue University-Calumet's Ashley Pabey on Mar. 30, before cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin's Hannah Tresedder on Apr. 2. Forking closed out the week with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Kaylen Kress of Webster University on Apr. 3.
In doubles play, Forkin and
Clare O'Connor teamed up at the No. 1 position to defeat Pabey and Lori Haas of Purdue Calumet, 8-6, while taking down Concordia Wisconsin's Ashley Solberg and Bailey Kelly, 8-2.
Forkin currently ranks second on the program's career singles wins list at different positions, as the junior has posted a career record of 48-26, only trailing Alicia DeGrado's '11 career mark of 60-48.
North Central closes out the home portion of the spring schedule on Thursday, Apr. 7, playing host to Aurora University at 5 p.m. inside the Res/Rec Center.
