Apr. 5, 2017 – For the second time in her career, North Central College's
Kelsey Forkin has been awarded by the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW), earning women's tennis Player of the Week honors for the week on Wednesday.
Forkin went 4-0 during the week as North Central defeated Concordia University Wisconsin and Purdue University Northwest, each by 5-4 scores.
Teaming up with
Clare O'Connor at No. 1 doubles, the duo defeated Concordia-Wisconsin's Ashley Solberg and Elizabeth Carroll, 8-2 on Apr. 1, before cruising past Purdue-Northwest's Brooke Foltz and Stella Evers, 8-1 the following afternoon.
Forkin proceeded to win each of her singles matches at the No. 3 position, each in straight sets, downing Concordia-Wisconsin's Hannah Tresedder, 6-0, 6-2, before a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Purdue-Northwest's Carolina Yepez.
North Central's all-time leader in career victories at multiple positions, Forkin accumulating a career record of 66-34, winning 17 or more matches in each of the last three seasons. Forkin and O'Connor are also tied for third on the program's career doubles win list with 49, needing just one more win to move into a three-way tie for second all-time.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday looking for their seventh-straight victory, playing host to Webster University at 9:30 a.m. at the NCC Tennis Courts.
